Most day homes typically operate from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

Some educators may also offer care during evenings and weekends.

What are the hours of operation?

In Alberta, child care educators must complete core and family child care training in their first year.

Many also pursue Alberta Child Care certificates at
Levels 1, 2, or 3 for advanced expertise.

What training do Day Home Educators receive?

Formal safety checks conducted in the day home twice a year, along with informal safety assessments during each monthly visit.


Observation of the interactions between the Educator and the children.


Discussions covering programming, nutrition, appropriate child development, and other vital information.


Training tailored to the specific needs of the Educators.


Follow-up communication with parents after each monthly visit.

What does day home monitoring involve?

Fees are due on the first working day of each month or on the first day of care.
Payments are processed through Direct Withdrawal.

How do I pay my fees?

Day home educators plan and provide a diverse range of activities and experiences tailored to children's interests, supporting their physical, emotional, social, and intellectual growth.

What should I expect from my
Day Home Educator?

A regulated day home can accommodate up to six children under the age of 13, not including the educator's own children.

Additionally, an educator may care for a maximum of two children who are under 2 years old and no more than three children who are under 3 years old.
